Not just in films but in any club or pub, having a woman hit a man, with full force, was considered funny, how she was a 'spitfire', or sometimes the woman would say, "I'm irish, I can't help it." But the comments toward the woman were generally positive. Last year, when the survey came out, 3 of 4 women have been in a physically abusive relationship and when asked, would likely go back to one. I don't find it funny, I find it sickening.

That this is just part of 'lad' culture is simply a movement from the whole 'sports violence' which in Cardiff happens on weekends, so much the entire downtown is closed off and contained and the police let what happens to happen. So having guys come to work with scabs or bruises on the face they will just tell you they were downtown and it was great, or downtown and someone just came up and hit them. Since male on male violence is okay, and 'lad culture' and women on men is okay - then a guy who is a guy is going to be physically violent, or he isn't a 'real man' in modern culture.

Regarding lesbians, the domestic violence stats are higher than heterosexuals, about 80%. Though due to not wanting to hurt the image of same sex relationships, this is covered up by everyone. The same techniques don't occur, like seperating the couple, or counselling alone as often that will be seen as 'them' trying to attack orientation - and due to so much violence against same sex relationships in society, couples would rather go it together, even with domestic violence, than allow seperations. Because, as is oft pointed out, 'Heteros can live in seperate houses and stil the society wants to see them and accepts them as together, while everyone from the butcher to your mother want you apart from this 'phase' and the only thing keeping you two together is yourself'

Lesbian centers are trying to work on making viable options to 'come out' about domestic violence, though so far, that hasn't caused significant drop in stats.Elizabeth McClunghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03627373214555333537noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10557263.post-16788547442907398042011-09-18T22:59:58.656+01:002011-09-18T22:59:58.656+01:00I hadn't seen the ad or the t-shirt.
